Dr Barry Smith - Gerringong Practice

Dr Smith graduated from the University of Sydney in 1994 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, before serving for 11 years as a Dental Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force.

With a young family on the way, it became time to make the move into private practice, starting up a single chair dental practice in a medical centre in the Camden area in 2002. With a focus on compassionate and caring treatment and treating each patient as an individual, the single chair practice has now expanded to become 7 chairs and 2 practices in Camden and Narellan.

Dr Smith completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics from Kings College London in 2008, attaining the highest level awarded (Distinction). 

He is also currently enrolled in the European Association for Osseointegration’s three year Diploma in Implant Dentistry, with mentoring from some of Europe’s leading Implantologists and Dentists. He is a highly skilled general dentist who enjoys treating patients of all ages and with a range of conditions.

He is well-known for always providing patients with at least three options for every problem, and then helping them decide which is the best treatment option. He has extensive experience in porcelain crowns and porcelain bridges, as well as implants, porcelain veneers, composite veneers, and occlusal splints. He also treats a lot of complex cases that may require a full mouth makeover, such as due to heavy wear of the front teeth or unsightly staining or positioning of the teeth. He has a special interest in Oral Appliances to assist with Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, and works with some of Sydney’s leading Sleep Physicians to provide this treatment when more traditional options (such as CPAP) are not working.

Dr Smith is also one of the few General Dentists in the region who are accredited to operate within a private operating theatre. He currently has a fortnightly list at Southern Highlands Private Hospital and will soon commence an additional list at Camden Day Surgery. This allows the treatment of anxious and nervous patients (especially children), as well as allowing him to complete more complex treatment cases, including the removal of impacted teeth, wisdom teeth and the placement of dental implants.

In his spare time, Dr Smith enjoys spending time with his family and training and competing in triathlons. He is a passionate parkrunner, establishing Bowral parkrun 8 years ago and now devotes time as an Event Ambassador for the parkrun movement, helping to set up new events in Australia.
